May 2015 – Rear Quarter Replacement
As I’d mentioned, the left rear quarter panel needed to be replaced, so I made a trip up to National Parts Depot in Ventura to pick one up. Of course, I couldn’t resist the temptation to buy a GT rear valance panel while I was there, as well as a few other small things I’ve meant to buy. Now that I know how close they are and how easy it is to get up there, I’m sure I’ll be making many more trips to Ventura in the coming months. This knowledge may prove hazardous to my health.
I had originally tried to order the rear quarter panel from RockAuto, but they called me the day after I placed the order and told me that the shipping quote I’d received originally was incorrect. The new shipping quote was more than the cost of the part itself, so off to NPD I went! And I’m glad I did.
I dropped the rear quarter off the day after I picked it up, and Bill went to work pretty quickly cutting out the old panel to weld in the new one. Given our experience so far with the passenger door (more on that later), I was apprehensive. But Bill said the panel fit like a glove! Just a small rust patch to go and the body will be ready for blocking, smoothing, and further prep.
